Holy Trinity meets at Zoar United Methodist Church at 1005 Hwy 357, Greer, SC. Worship begins at 11:00AM in the sanctuary and Sunday School begins at 9:45AM downstairs from the sanctuary in the fellowship hall. In Sunday School we are presently studying, The Story of Christianity, by Justo Gonzalez. "The Story of Christianity ... brings alive the people, dramatic events and ideas that shaped the church’s life and thought. Justo Gonzalez shows how various social, political and economic movements affected Christianity’s internal growth, tracing out core theological issues and developments as reflected in the lives and struggles of leading thinkers within the various traditions of the church.... Historian Justo Gonzalez brings to life the people, dramatic events and shaping ideas of Protestantism, Catholicism and [Eastern] Orthodoxy, keynoting crucial theological developments. In particular, the author notes recurring themes of unrest, rebellion and reformation." Justo Gonzalez’s book is one of the best surveys of church history available. It is scholarly without being academic, clearly written and easy to follow, containing numerous maps, charts, timelines and illustrations. Gonzalez, a Protestant, covers the spectrum of Christian thought and history in his book. It is a good resource for lay people, pastors or students and a launch pad for deeper study in one’s area of interest, such as the Patristic period, Middle Ages, Reformation or modern era. The author explains how the Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches and the various Protestant denominations originated and evolved. This Sunday April 17, 2011 is Palm Sunday which falls in the season of Lent. The season of Lent is the forty days leading up to Resurrection Sunday, not counting Sundays, during which the Church focuses her attention on discipleship and spiritual warfare. We use these days for prayer, fasting, and meditating on the great mercy of God found in the passion and death of Jesus Christ. Lent reminds us that our joy and confidence is in the forgiveness found in Christ, and therefore we plead with God to continue his work in us. Please join us as we worship the Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Holy Trinity Reformed Evangelical Church is a member of the Confederation of Reformed Evangelical Churches (CREC), and we are committed to living out the fullness of the Gospel in Greenville, South Carolina. Beginning with faithful worship on the Lord's Day, Holy Trinity seeks to celebrate the goodness of God in all of life through laughter, dancing, and feasting. It is our hope to work together with the many other Christian congregations of this region for the blessing and welfare of our city. Standing in the Reformation tradition, we believe that the Triune God created and perfectly rules over all things, and in Jesus Christ became man in order to purchase the salvation of the world. From every land, race, nation and family under heaven, God is gathering His saints through the proclamation of the gospel and the faithful celebration of the sacraments. We believe that Jesus conquered sin and death in His death, burial and resurrection and ascended into heaven where He reigns as King over all the earth and that He will reign there until all of his enemies have become His footstool. This gradual transformation of the world was inaugurated two thousand years ago, and continues to this day as men, women and children repent and believe, placing their trust in the Messiah. As witnessed throughout the Scriptures, we believe that God is enthroned in the praises of His people, and that as Christians offer pure sacrifices of praise to the King, God acts on our behalf judging the nations and establishing His rule in the earth. Thus beginning with joyful, robust, liturgical worship each Lord’s Day, we seek to build a high Christian culture through living out winsome, faithful lives before our Maker. We believe that the Church exists for the world, and therefore we are called to faithfulness in worship, our families, vocations, and communities to the end that our neighborhoods and cities are transformed by the grace of God. Faith has hands and feet, and therefore all genuine piety expresses itself in grace and mercy to neighbors, family, friends, but particularly to those in distress. Christ came for the sick and weak and abandoned, and it is the Church’s responsibility to show forth that same kind of grace. If you live in or near Greenville and do not yet have a church home or you are recently moved to the area, please consider joining our fellowship. If you already have a church home we extend to you the right hand of fellowship and pray God’s richest blessings on you. Regardless, please do not hesitate to call or email with questions or prayer requests. We would love to know how we might serve you. |
